Menvier M-Series - a guide to choosing your intruder alarm control panel

OR

Product Description

The type of control panel you require depends on the size of your premises and the way in which the system will be used, e.g. a large warehouse may require less zones or access points than a medium sized office or home. The control panel represents only a small part of the installation cost so use the guide below to select the features needed to secure your premises effectively. It makes sense to choose a system with spare capacity as you may wish to expand at a later date.

Display Type

Simple systems require only simple displays; however if you want a high degree of text programmability choose an LCD version. Each control panel has its own keypad display system.

Number of Zones

Effectively the number of detection circuits on the system. It is possible to put more than one detection device on each zone but in some cases this should be avoided to allow clear identification of where the alarm originated.

Number of Keypads

This depends on how many entry or exit points you need and whether internal 'partitions' are to be created.

Partitions

Allow independent areas within one overall system to have their own individual protection. This can be useful where there are separate businesses within one building or where you wish to restrict access to certain departments when they are unattended.

Part Setting

Allows parts of the system to be set whilst free movement is possible elsewhere. You may for example wish to secure the perimeter whilst staff are working inside during the evening.

User Codes

How many people will be using the alarm system and do you want them to have their own individual codes? It is also possible to designate varying levels of control, e.g. allow your cleaners to set, but not unset, the system.

Event Log

Often a requirement of insurers to provide a history of events but also allows you to access useful information - who set the system, at what time, etc.

Remote Reset

When linked to a central monitoring station it is generally a police requirement that alarm systems, following an activation, should be reset under engineer supervision to minimise false alarms. If the alarm has been triggered accidentally this feature allows the central station to control the re-set without an engineer having to attend site.

Remote Programming

Using downloading software enables the control panel to be programmed and maintained remotely or on site via a personal computer. The software may be installed on a laptop or desktop PC. This allows a remote office, typically your installer, central station or a corporate security HQ to access the system controls via a PC, modem and telephone line. This downloading capability allows your alarm system to be re-configured and tested by security staff located many miles away.
