Vale of Glamorgan Council digital conferencing & sound
PEL Services designed, supplied and installed digital conference and sound reinforcement systems for Vale of Glamorgan Council, as part of a major refurbishment of the Council Main Chamber, from a traditional design to an accessible multi-use space. Vale of Glamorgan Council needed a wireless Discussion System and enhanced clarity sound to meet the Council’s wider requirements for the smart new chamber and ceremonial venue.
Following recommendations from audio visual manufacturers and a competitive tender, PEL was appointed to undertake a complete refit of the Chamber with a Bosch DCN Wireless Discussion System accommodating 60 delegates. A sound reinforcement system covering the Chamber and Public Gallery was also installed for maximum clarity during Council meetings as well as for playing music during, for example, wedding ceremonies.
Whilst the system is primarily used for meetings held in the chamber, including main council meetings, planning enquiries etc., its transportability and simple, swift set up and breakdown allow the Council to take the system to monthly cabinet meetings around the area which affords the public greater opportunity to attend and participate. An additional wireless aerial and tripod have also been supplied to enable the wireless system to be readily used across multiple sites. Such a flexible set up ensures the Council gets maximum use from the system.
Council meetings are facilitated using compact table-top wireless discussion units, which are powered by easy to use rechargeable battery packs. The wireless system works over distances of 30m and more, with excellent speech intelligibility, security and protection from interference. It has been linked to the Council’s PA System to broadcast meetings in the Public Gallery and to HD (1080p) cameras within the Chamber which can be viewed live within the Chamber on 50” flat panel HD Monitors, and through webcasts in a move to improve transparency.
For ease of use, the DCN system can be set to automatically show the name ID of the current speaker, so an operator is not required, making it very cost-effective. Meetings, including planning applications, can be recorded and can be accessed by the public via the internet for maximum convenience.
For the Vale of Glamorgan Council, PEL Services installed the DCN system with the optional voting functionality, featuring simple to use software operated on a standard PC.
Commenting on the service delivered by PEL Services, Paul V Scourfield, Access / Architectural Officer for Vale of Glamorgan Council said the company had been “excellent”.
