PEL created a sound masking installation with three separate controllable zones for the client area, meeting rooms and upstairs office / studio.
This leading firm of Chartered Surveyors, in Knutsford, Cheshire were upsizing their team to smart client-friendly new offices on two floors, with an open galleried atrium containing meeting rooms, with a client area and reception downstairs.
The layout makes maximum use of the available space, to include an open-plan studio office space suitable for the busy team, project meeting rooms and senior management offices, in a complex which also includes a small gym and kitchen with shower and changing room for staff.
Sound Management Noise Generator and Control Equipment using Pink Noise
PEL created a sound masking installation with three separate controllable zones for the client area, meeting rooms and upstairs office and studio. The entire system uses Cambridge Sound management noise generator and control equipment, with 42 pink noise emitters, discreetly recessed into ceiling-mountings.
PEL Senior Project Engineer Terry Botterill explains: “On a typical morning, for example, given the number of guests arriving/talking, the client may want a relatively high background of pink noise going through their Client Area, in the downstairs quadrant, but not in the upstairs office area. Therefore with the system split into zones this is easily achievable”.
Each emitter can also be adjusted individually, if required, with DIL switches to set default levels.
Sound Masking: Endless Integration Possibilities
Where it would be beneficial or necessary, sound masking systems can be set-up to integrate with background music and audio-visual equipment, as well as public address, PA / voice alarm systems and even access control systems, with pink noise kicking in as a space fills-up, managing an ideal working environment throughout office hours and around the clock. There are various capital expenditure budget implications too.
